Sheldon Connection to Northampton
According to tradition, S-5 Isaac Sheldon, was one of
sixteen courageous men who came to Northampton in 1654. He owned lots
totaling 35 acres of land in and around Northampton. His home-lot was on
the east side of what is now called King Street. He was a Selectman,
took the oath of allegiance to Charles the Second, was appointed
Fenceviewer, chosen Constable, chosen to act as Tithing man, and elected
as an overseer of the poor. In January 1668-69 Isaac, among others, signed
a petition protesting a tax on corn. Isaac Sheldon died July 27, 1708,
aged about 79. He is buried at the Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton.
